Readyhough jumps in the paintball section

Ashcombe Up with the sun (under canvas you have little choice) we were up in plenty of time for a hearty breakfast before walking the course again and starting practice.
The course started on the same ramp as yesterdays berms course and followed the same rout for most of the first section, and indeed kept parallel to the previous course most of the way down, turning of just before the jump then descended a steep and treacherous rock strewn section. Early on in the day the rocks were mostly in a chute down the middle with the line snaking around either side, but as more riders dislodged rocks and spread them around the harder the section became. Towards race time the only really fast rout through was to strait line out of the first corner and hit a jump onto the last part of the section, quite a ballsy line as there were some killer roots on the landing. After this riders crossed a fireroad and hit a sharp earth bank just after a tight tree/rut negotiation, carrying speed round the trees was key otherwise getting over the bank was difficult.
Across a fire road led onto Sunday's version of the steep to ditch crossings. This course crossed the ditches a little lower and the first two had joined to make a stream crossing littered with large rocks and only one lone through meant it got progressively harder through the day. The second ditch was narrow and hop-able.
The track then turned out onto a fire road and turned down into the centres paintballing area, looking like a mini war zone the trees were spotted with paint and all manner of defences and fortifications littered the sections. This final section started tight sweezing between trees before gradually opening up with a nice showy jump and some wide sections with good line choice, a drop onto a bridge, round a signpost and over the finish.

Practice was put on hold for an hour after yesterday's winner Jim Davage crashed on a log jump in the paintball section and had to be air lifted to hospital. The course was adjusted and racing was delayed by one hour to compensate. He was back on site by afternoon as a spectator.
Loads more riders turned up for Sundays race including Shred Magazine, some representatives of Nokian and a crowd of youngsters operating under the name Summerset Bike Company. Junior champ. Ashley Mullane won the Super Cup with Mark Cornick taking second having been shaken up seeing Jim's crash. Winners stayed mostly the same as Saturday across the board, changes being Helen Gwilliam making an appearance for Team Mash and Jims absence from Seniors allowing Darren Wainwright to take the win with Shred's Peter Drew a close second.
